American universities consistently rank high in global university rankings thanks to their rigorous academic programs, cutting-edge research, world-class faculty and diverse student body. So, it's no surprise that students around the world aspire to study there.
However, studying in the US is expensive, with an average annual tuition cost of approximately USD24,914. Add in the annual cost of living — approximately USD 11,651 — and you'd be spending up to USD36,564 annually.
This may be a large sum of money but fret not, do not dash your hopes just yet. With the American Degree Program (ADP), you can still study in the US or earn a US degree at a more affordable cost.
American Degree Program (ADP)
With ADP, you can skip the traditional pre-university route and start your journey directly with just your high school qualifications. Students who complete their degree program on time will greatly benefit from studying under the prestigious American academic structure.
The ADP offers an innovative pathway for international students to complete the undergraduate degree program hosted at reputable institutions around the world. This means you will complete all the coursework and earn a degree without the need to transfer to the US.
Malaysia is one country that offers the ADP. Two institutions offering the ADP 4+0 are:
1. SEGi University - a partner of Troy University, Alabama
2. INTI International College - a partner of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU)
By studying a 4+0 program, you save anywhere from 30% to 40% off the total cost of studying in the US.
Take for example the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration 4+0 at INTI International College Subang. You will be spending approximately USD20,690 (RM88,260) for study and additional living costs close to USD41,952 (RM178,958) for 4 years in Malaysia.
This means you'll be spending just USD62,642 (RM267,218) in total and earn a degree awarded by Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).
If you intend to make the most of the foreign study experience, many ADP programs in Malaysia also allow for credit transfer, which can be transferred to any university in the world. While many students choose to relocate to the United States, ADP also allows credit transfers to universities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
American Degree Transfer Programme (ADTP)
For those who are set on making their way to a prestigious university in the US, that's what the American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) offers. The ADTP is intended for students who wish to transfer to an American university after studying for 1-2 years in Malaysia. The two options are:
1. 1 + 3 ( 1 year in Malaysia and 3 years in USA)
2. 2 + 2 (2 years in Malaysia and 2 years in USA)
ADTP students typically take a set of prescribed units at a Malaysian institution, equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor's degree program in the United States. Upon completing these units, students are eligible to transfer to a partner university in the United States to continue their studies and complete their degrees.
The following Malaysian universities offer the ADTP programme:
1. Taylors University
2. UCSI College
3. INTI International College
Reasons to Consider ADP/ADTP
1. You'll have greater flexibility
2. You'll have fewer exams and more coursework
3. You'll be exposed to a diverse range of subjects
4. ADP is your entry ticket to American Universities
ADP vs ADTP
Both the American Degree Program (ADP) and American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) are popular options for students interested in pursuing an American degree. However, there are some significant differences between the two programs.
Here's a comparison table between American Degree Program (ADP) and American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP):
Overall, the American Degree Transfer Program and the American Degree Program are both excellent options for students who want to pursue a degree from an American university. Both programs provide students with the opportunity to study in a multicultural setting, receive a high-quality education, save money and develop a professional network.
